Mamelodi Sundown and Remo Stars face off in Abeokuta
Mamelodi Sundowns thrashed Remo Stars 5-1 in their CAF Champions League (CCL) final qualifying round first leg tie at the MKO Abiola stadyium, Abeokuta, on Sunday.
The self-styled Brazilians scored thrice in the second half to teach Remo Stars, NPFL champions, a continental lesson in their makeshift home, with five different goal scorers netting for the South African side.
Samson Olasupo scored Remo’s consolation, with the Ikenne-based side on the brink of missing the lucrative CCL group stage.
Sundowns took the lead through Tashreeq Mathews on 12 minutes with a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box, before Peter Shalulile effortlessly slotted beyond a motionless goalkeeper to double.
