Channels TV to broadcast TheCable’s documentary on $1.3bn Malabu scandal Friday

Channels TV will broadcast TheCable’s investigative documentary on the $1.3 billion OPL 245 saga, also known as ‘Malabugate’, on Friday.

Produced by TheCable and Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation (CNJF), the explanatory documentary will air at 11am on DStv channel 420 and GOtv channel 24.

The documentary premiered on TVC News at 9pm on Sunday, May 4, and is now available for streaming on TheCable’s YouTube channel.

The report unravels the full scope of the OPL 245 scandal, one of the most complex, controversial and consequential oil deals in Nigeria’s history.

Spanning more than two decades, the film explores how a single oil block became the epicentre of a convoluted corruption saga — with power and international intrigue thrown in for full measure.

The story begins in the Sani Abacha era, when the oil block was awarded to a company with no proven track record.

It traces how the licence was revoked, restored, and eventually flipped in a deal involving Shell, Eni, and a network of politically exposed persons.

The documentary aims to expose the complex dynamics at play within the global oil industry and the Nigerian political sphere.

It also provides an insightful look at how power, politics and influence continue to shape the country’s oil sector.
