Chelsea conceded in each half to lose 2-0 to Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge in their English Premier League (EPL) encounter on Saturday.

Ollie Watkins and John McGinn were the goalscorers as Graham Potter’s side failed to win in consecutive EPL matches at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea would feel unlucky after creating several chances that saw a Ben Chilwell goal ruled out for offside.

Nevertheless, Unai Emery’s team took the lead in the 18th minute through Watkins who latched on to a Marc Cucurella mistake to lob the ball over Kepa Arizabalaga into the net.

McGinn doubled the scoreline in the 56th minute with a rocket shot from 25 yards out following a poorly cleared corner kick.

The Scottish midfielder blasted the ball beyond Arizabalaga into the roof of the net to seal an unlikely win.

Victory for Aston Villa is their first at Stamford Bridge since 2011, ending a 12-year winless run at a lavishly-assembled Chelsea side.

Elsewhere, the race for the EPL title continued with the top two sides securing comfortable victories at home, and by a similar scoreline.

While table-toppers Arsenal toppled relegation-threatened Leeds 4-1 at the Emirates, Manchester City secured the same 4-1 win over Liverpool to halt Jurgen Klopp’s side’s mini-revival.

RESULTS

  • Manchester City 4-1 Liverpool
  • Arsenal 4-1 Leeds United
  • Bournemouth 2-1 Fulham
  • Brighton 3-3 Brentford
  • Crystal Palace 2-1 Leicester City
  • Nottingham Forest 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
  • Chelsea 0-2 Aston Villa
