Chevron reaffirms support for decade of gas initiative as NNPC official visits Escravos site

Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has reaffirmed its support for the federal government’s ‘Decade of Gas’ initiative.

According to a statement on Thursday, Chevron reiterated its commitment to the initiative when Udobong Ntia, executive vice-president (EVP) of upstream at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, visited its Escravos operations base.

The company’s executives — Segun Kuteyi, director of operations and chief operating officer, and Michelle Pflueger, director of asset development and chief asset development officer — were said to have led Chevron’s leadership team that received Ntia and his delegation.

According to the statement, Kuteyi expressed appreciation for the visit, describing Chevron as a long-term partner in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

“Our business spans exploration, production, gas development, and deepwater operations—including the Agbami Field, one of Nigeria’s largest deepwater discoveries,” he said.

“At the core of our business is the Chevron Way, which outlines our core beliefs, values, and purpose: delivering affordable, reliable, and ever cleaner energy; promoting human ingenuity to solve energy challenges; and operating with trust, integrity, and accountability.”

Chevron said the NNPC delegation was briefed on its integrated operations covering onshore and offshore assets, the Escravos gas plant (EGP), and the Escravos gas-to-liquids (EGTL) facility — one of only five such plants globally.

The presentation also covered the company’s accomplishments, business planning, production forecasts, operational challenges, and strategies for asset integrity and cost management.

In his remarks, Ntia commended Chevron’s partnership with host communities, saying it has helped the company maintain its social licence to operate even in areas where other international operators have exited due to operational challenges.

He also praised Chevron’s innovative use of technology, including the deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for asset monitoring, and called for continued collaboration among industry stakeholders.

On Chevron’s support for the federal government’s decade of gas initiative, Kuteyi said the company continues to invest in cleaner energy and reduce routine gas flaring.

“We are proud to be aligned with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative, and we continue to invest in cleaner energy solutions, reduce routine gas flaring, and build a profitable gas business,” he said.

“Today, 99.9% of our fabrication work is done in-country, reflecting our belief in investing not just in oil and gas, but in people, partnerships, and the future of Nigeria.”

The statement, signed by Oduselu Olusoga, the chief corporate affairs officer, Chevron Nigeria and the mid Africa region, said the visit ended with a tour of the integrated operations centre, the tank farm, and the EGP facilities.
