Chibok parents: APC hasn’t done enough to rescue our daughters

Chibok parents: APC hasn’t done enough to rescue our daughters

Parents of the abducted Chibok girls have alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) used the abduction of the girls as a campaign tool to ride into power in 2015.

Ayuba Alamson, spokesman for parents of the abducted girls, made the allegation in an interaction with reporters in Maiduguri, on Monday.

The girls were kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary School by members of the Boko Haram sect on April 14, 2014.

A total of 107 girls have been released in batches, 57 escaped from captivity while 112 are still being held by the insurgents.

Alamson said the circumstances surrounding the abduction of the girls was one of the reasons many Nigerians voted for the APC, with the hope that things would be better.

While noting that the Chibok community is still under continuous attack from the insurgents, he made reference to how the Lagos state government swiftly swung into action when some school children in the state were kidnapped but said the reverse is the case in Chibok.

He, however, said the federal government has tried but maintained that their effort was still “below average.”

“APC has used the abduction of our girls to earn power in an easy way in 2015 but is yet to justify the promises they made while seeking power. I also supported the efforts of those parents in voting for the APC, but till today, the efforts are in vain,” Alamson said.

“Our girls were in the hands of the APC government at the state level, while the PDP was ruling at the federal level.

“Apart from the 112 of the girls still missing, the Chibok community and environs have been under constant Boko Haram attacks even till today. It is important to note that when some schoolchildren were kidnapped in Lagos, we all saw how the state government swung into action to rescue them. But in the case of Chibok, it was a different ball game.

“We have followed a lot of channels to see that the 112 girls are released. Federal government has tried but the pass mark is below average.”
