Chimaroke Nnamani, senator representing Enugu east, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He announced his resignation from the party hours after losing the Enugu east senatorial seat to Kelvin Chukwu, candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

Prior to the election, the former governor of Enugu had been involved in a running battle with the PDP.

The senator, who was very vocal about his support for Bola Tinubu, president-elect, was expelled from the PDP for alleged “anti-party” activities.

Tinubu was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the presidential election.

In a statement on Monday, the senator said consultations with his constituents and associates informed his decision to quit the PDP.

The former governor said he has moved on and hopes that his “modest contributions” to the development of his constituency would be the building blocks for his successor.

Nnamani added that he “will continue to partner with Tinubu”.

“A Tinubu administration will promote good governance, rule of law and human rights for the interest of all Nigerians,” he said.

The outgoing senator thanked Nigerians, “especially the Ebeano political family”, and urged them to remain steadfast in the years ahead.
