With brilliant and scintillating football matches across the globe over the weekend, some Nigerians went from zero to hero, some absent from action and some performed below par.

Here are the top performers who made TheCable’s team of the week:

Austin Ejide [Hapoel Hadera]

When Hapoel Hadera needed someone to help them navigate past Sektzia Nes Tziona in the Toto Cup, it was Austin Ejide that helped win in the penalty shootout. The keeper produced a series of saves in the full regulation game.

Dominic Iorfa [Sheffield Wednesday]

The right-back was in his normal form in the English Championship. His crosses and tackles were on point. His telepathic chemistry with the defence was just superb.

William Troost-Ekong [Udinese]

The Spurs product was peppering at the back for Udinese last weekend. He marshalled the defence line against Sudtirol in the Coppa Italia.

Semi Ajayi [West Brom]

With his intelligence and calmness, Ajayi was able to neutralize the opposition. He was the real gen of the West Brom defence.

Iyayi Atiemwen [Dinamo Zagreb]

He emerged the MVP of the game for his stupendous performance against Inter Zapresic. He is the reason Dinamo Zagreb won 2-1 with a brace.

Samuel Chukwueze [Villarreal]

A near perfect day in office for the skillful winger who scored in day 1 of 2019/20 La Liga season. The youngster was lively in Villarreal’s nail-biting 4-4 draw with Granada.

Wilfred Ndidi [Leicester City]

Ndidi rose to the occasion in their clash with Leicester City at Stamford Bridge. He was strong in air and made excellent crosses. He stopped a number of dangerous moves by the Blues and scored the leveller.

Kingsley Michael [Bologna]

Kingsley Michael rose to the occasion in the game against Pisa. He was instrumental in defensive midfield and made sure the home side did not get a goal.

Josh Maja [Bordeaux]

Maja grabbed the equaliser for Bordeaux at home to Montpellier. He was sharp and reminisced his playing days for Sunderland.

Sylvester Igboun [FC Ufa]

He scored twice in their 2-0 win over Rostov. He won the MVP of the game. His attacking prowess was simply amazing in the game. It was no surprise he bagged a brace.

Aaron Samuel Olanare [Sichuan Longfa]

The former CSKA Moscow man is in a form of his life. He scored twice in Longfa’s 3-2 win over Liaoning Hongyun taking his personal tally to 12 goals in the Chinese League One.
