The video of Abubakar Shekau that resurfaced on Thursday was, in fact, released in 2016 by the Boko Haram leader.
The coincidence of events — President Muhammadu Buhari visiting Borno state and Boko Haram terrorists striking moments thereafter — created the wrong impression that Shekau’s video was fresh.
