Cleric in court for defaming Sanusi

The police have arraigned Nasiru Bazallah, a popular cleric in Kano, before a magistrate court in the state, for allegedly insulting Muhammad Sanusi, emir of Kano.

The prosecutor alleged that the cleric intended to provoke breach of peace, contrary to section 114,392 and 399 of the penal code law.

The first information report stated that on May 8, Sanusi complained to the state commissioner of police that Bazallah defamed him publicly.

The king said the scholar assembled his followers at Goron Dutse quarters in the ancient city and made provocative statements to incite disturbance., defame the character of the Monarch and intention to insult his integrity.

Haziel Ledapwa, the prosecutor, told the court that police investigation was still in progress.

In his ruling, Hassan Fagge, the presiding magistrate,  admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties.

The magistrate said the sureties must be directors at the federal ministry
