The complexities of climate change and its associated jargon can make it difficult to digest. TheCable’s climate quick facts will help to demystify these concepts through easy-to-understand and straight-to-the-point explanations.

Here are some to keep at the tip of your fingers:

  • The United Nations says the earth is now about 1.1°C warmer than it was in the 1800s.
  • On the current path of carbon dioxide emissions, temperature could increase by as much as 4.4°C by the end of the century, according to the UN.
  • The UN says the world will need to decrease fossil fuel production by six percent every year between 2020 and 2030 to stay below the 1.5°C limit.
  • In a single square mile, mangroves hold as much carbon as the annual emissions of 90,000 cars, Conservation International said.
  • If the mangroves are destroyed, all that carbon is released into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change.
