The complexities of climate change and its associated jargon can make it difficult to digest. TheCable’s climate quick facts will help to demystify these climate concepts through easy-to-understand and straight-to-the-point explanations.

Here are some to keep at the tip of your fingers:

  • Twenty percent of global greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans are due to deforestation – exceeding the emissions from all of the passenger vehicles on the planet, according to Conservation International.
  • Conservation International said tropical forests are effective at storing carbon, providing at least a third of the mitigation action needed to prevent climate change.
  • According to the United Nations, healthy ecosystems can provide 37 percent of the mitigation needed to limit global temperature rise.
  • Damaged ecosystems release carbon instead of storing it, the UN said.
  • Nature-based solutions receive only three percent of all climate funding, according to Conservation International.
