Abdulazeez wins gold — Nigeria’s eighth medal of Commonwealth Games

Abdulazeez Ibrahim has won Nigeria’s fourth gold medal of the Commonwealth Games.

With a lift of 220kg, Abdulazeez dominated the heavyweight category of para powerlifting.

He amassed a total of 191.9 points despite failing his attempt at lifting 221kg.

Malaysia’s Yee Khie Jong won the silver medal with a lift of 188.7kg while India’s Sachin Chandhary won bronze with a 181.0kg effort.

The Nigerian gold medallist won the heavyweight title in Glasgow four years ago.

At the ongoing Games, Nigeria has so far won eight medals; four silver and four gold.

The country is currently ninth on the medals table.
