Confusion as Imo APC guber primary fails to commence after 9 hours

The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Imo state has not commenced nine hours after party faithful trooped to their wards with the hope of electing the party’s candidate in the 2019 election.

The national working committee (NWC) had shifted the exercise from Sunday to Monday, citing logistics.

Adams Oshiomhole, national chairman of the APC, had said that all the materials needed for the exercise would be in the state on Monday.

But as of 5:25pm on Monday,  there was no sign of voting in all the areas TheCable visited. This is despite the fact that party members had been out since as early as 8am

Imo is among the states where the NEC approved direct primary.

The crowd at the secretariat who defied a downpour to get electoral materials thinned out gradually after waiting in vain.

A member of the party, who did not want his name mentioned, alleged that Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo, is behind the delay.

He accused Okorocha of scheming to ensure that Uche Nwosu, his son-in-law, is given the party’s ticket.

“Nobody is saying anything, this is a desperate act to give his soon the ticket. All I know is that the election will hold today, they want it in the night,” he told TheCable.

“You know politicians have different ways of doing things.”

He vowed to remain at the secretariat until the voting materials for his ward are reeased.

“Even if it is 1am they want to start, I am not leaving here. I will wait.”
