Coronavirus: 10 more patients die in UK as deaths double in 24 hours

The death toll of coronavirus in the United Kingdom doubled on Saturday following the death of 10 more people.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 casualty in the UK to 21.

Chris Whitty, UK chief medical officer, said all of the latest victims were patients in “at-risk” groups, over the age of 60 and having underlying health conditions.

“I understand this increase in the number of deaths linked to Covid-19 will be a cause for concern for many. The public should know every measure we are taking is seeking to save lives and protect the most vulnerable,” Whitty said

Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau, wife of Canadian prime minister, tested positive for the disease after attending a programme in the UK.

There are now over 1,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK.
