Coronavirus toll in Nigeria now 89 as infection spreads to Benue

Nigeria has recorded eight new coronavirus cases bringing the number of cases in the country to 89.

The cases are spread across 10 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the new cases in a tweet on Saturday.

It said seven of the new cases are in Lagos while one is in Benue.

Of the 89 confirmed cases, Lagos has 59, the federal capital territory (FCT) 14, Ogun three and Oyo three.

Edo, Bauchi and Enugu states have two cases each. And Ekiti, Osun, Rivers and Benue state have one case each.

Suleiman Achimugu, former managing director of the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC), is Nigeria’s only casualty of the disease so far.

He died on Monday after returning to the country from the UK.

Three patients have recovered and have been discharged from hospital.

Over 600,000 coronavirus cases have been recorded globally, with more than 28,000 deaths.
