Barclays Premier League newcomers Bournemouth are closing in on the signing of St Etienne forward Max Gradel.

The Cote d’Ivoire striker had a loan spell with the Cherries in the 2007-08 season and is undergoing a medical with the south coast club.

The 27-year-old started his career at Leicester and, after a loan spell at Leeds, moved to Elland Road permanently in 2010.

He joined St Etienne 18 months later and was their leading scorer in Ligue 1 last season with 17 goals.

He could be in the team starting line-up in the league opener against Aston Villa at the Vitality Stadium.
