Court remands man for ‘abducting 14-year-old girl’ in Lagos

An Ikeja chief magistrate’s court has ordered that Oluwaseun Ayeni be remanded in a correctional centre for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old girl.

E. Kubeinje, chief magistrate, remanded Ayeni, 31, in Kirikiri maximum correctional centre pending trial.

The magistrate adjourned the case to February 28 for hearing.

Kehinde Ajayi, deputy superintendent of police and police prosecutor, said the defendant committed the offence on January 3 at Moshalasi Close, Abule-Alagbado, Lagos state.

She alleged that the defendant was the boyfriend of the missing girl.

“He took her to his house at Egbado street, Dalemo, Alakuko, Lagos, without the consent of her parents,” the prosecutor said.

Ajayi said that the offence was a breach of the provisions of sections 277 (a and b) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.

Section 277 states that: “Any person with intent to deprive any parent or guardian, forcibly or fraudulently takes or entices away or detains the child, is guilty of a felony and is liable to 14 years imprisonment”.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
