The Lagos state high court has sentenced Lekan Shonde, depot worker in the Apapa area of the state, to death by hanging for killing Ronke Shonde, his wife.

Josephine Oyefeso, the presiding judge, handed the sentence after she found the accused guilty of the murder of his wife.

The convict was accused of beating his wife to death at their home in the Egbeda-Idimu area of Lagos state.

He was alleged to have killed his wife in May 2016 and thereafter fled their home, locking her corpse in the house with their two children aged five and six who were asleep. T

he incident was discovered by a housekeeper and later reported to the police.

Lekan had accused Ronke of extramarital affair with one Kayode, the general manager of a publishing company.
