AYM Shafa Limited, an oil and gas company, has donated medical equipment worth 20 million naira to Bauchi state.

In a statement on Wednesday, Ladan Salihu, chief of staff to the governor, said the donation is to support the state in the fight against coronavirus.

He said the equipment, which was received by Baba Tela, the deputy governor, will also alleviate the challenges associated with the management of patients in isolation centres.

According to him, the management of coronovirus requires the participation of everyone as the government alone cannot provided facilities needed for tackling the virus.

“We want to register our appreciation to AYM Shafa for this humanitarian gesture; this gesture will assist us to fill in the gaps that will be created in addressing the challenges of COVID-19,” he said.

“The distribution is in progress. His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has commended such initiative and has asked us to convey his appreciation to all who have donated and for those who are coming in with further donations, we will welcome them.”

Salihu said the government will ensure judicious distribution of funds and other items donated by corporate organisations and individuals.

Yakubu Maishanu, chairman of the company, asked citizens to adhere to precautionary measures to curb the spread of the disease.

“Despite the rate of its spread, we can overcome this pandemic if we work together and support each other. We commend the work of the government in battling the pandemic,” Maishanu said.

Bauchi currently has six confirmed cases of COVID-19.
