Mohammed Kawu, acting secretary of the health and human services secretariat of the federal capital territory (FCT), has been discharged from the Asokoro District Hospital, Abuja, where he was receiving treatment for COVID-19.

The FCT administration disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

On July 9, the FCTA had announced that he started experiencing symptoms about two weeks before, and test conducted on him returned positive.

According to the statement, Kawu said he and his family members were discharged from the isolation centre on Saturday.

“I developed chest infection, so I had to be on antibiotics for some days. But thank God, myself and members of my family do not have the symptoms again and we have been discharged from the isolation centre,” he said.

He added that he experienced discrimination as a result of his contracting COVID-19.

“Even me, I was not spared. I heard that people around the neighbourhood where I live were spreading the news in fear. So, we need to really work on the stigma issue,” he said.

Also, Chiedu Ebie, secretary to the Delta state government, has recovered from COVID-19.

This was disclosed in a tweet by the state government on Sunday.

On June 21, Ebie had tested positive for the virus after exhibiting mild symptoms.

He was confirmed positive alongside Charles Aniagwu, the commissioner for information.

According to Olisa Ifeajika, chief press secretary to the governor, Ebie was discharged on Sunday after spending 21 days in the state’s isolation centre.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), as of Saturday, out of a total of 31,987 COVID-19 cases confirmed across the country, 13,103 persons have been discharged while 724 deaths have occurred.
