The national assembly management will begin fumigating its complex a second time on Thursday.

The federal government began fumigating public buildings across the country after the country recorded cases of COVID-19.

In a circular dated June 17, Titus Jatau, deputy director of management services in the house of representatives, said the fumigation exercise will be between Thursday and Monday, June 22.

“Approval has been granted for the 2nd quarter fumigation exercise to be carried out tomorrow Thursday, 18th and Friday, 19th June, 2020,” Jatau said.

“In the light of the above, all staff are requested to stay away during this period of the exercise and to resume work on Monday, 22nd June, 2020.”

The senate and house of representatives are currently on recess for a week to mark one year since the ninth assembly was inaugurated.

While the usual plenary sessions have not been held this week, some committees have continued to carry out their duties.

The lawmakers are expected to resume next Tuesday.

In March, the national assembly was forced to shut down over a COVID-19 scare and since it resumed, it has not fully functioned.

So far, Nigeria has recorded 17,735 cases of COVID-19. While 5,967 patients have recovered from the disease, 469 have died, according to data provided by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
