The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reported 40 new positive samples of coronavirus on Saturday, raising the tally to 254,501 infections.

The latest COVID-19 cases were recorded in three states and the federal capital territory (FCT), according to the agency’s update for February 26, 2022.

Lagos state — the epicentre of the pandemic in Nigeria — recorded the highest number of new infections with 29 positive samples; followed by Delta with seven, the FCT and Rivers with two cases each.

The agency, however, said Saturday’s data contained 10 previously confirmed cases in Lagos state omitted from the cumulative report.

For the eighth day in a row, no new death as a result of COVID-19 complications was recorded in Nigeria.

The COVID-19 death toll in the country remains unchanged at 3,142.

Overall, Lagos accounts for the highest figure of coronavirus deaths in Nigeria with 769 deaths, followed by Edo and the FCT, with 321 and 248 deaths, respectively.

The NCDC said 130 patients were discharged on Saturday after recovering from the infection.

With the new figure, a total of 248,993 patients have so far recovered from COVID-19 in Nigeria.
