COVID-19: Over 600 discharged in 24 hours — and Lagos leads with 214 recoveries

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 643 COVID-19 patients were discharged in 24 hours.

The agency confirmed this in its update for February 23.

According to the agency, the discharges also include 214 community recoveries in Lagos state, 61 in the federal capital territory (FCT), and 11 in Benue state managed in line with the guidelines.

With the new figure, 129,943 patients have now been discharged after recovering from the infection.

Lagos currently holds the highest number of recoveries in the country with 52,294 in total.

But the number of new infections remained on the low side, though with a five percent increase from Monday as 571 new cases were recorded.

The positive cases were recorded in 20 states and the FCT — with Lagos topping the list with 170 new infections followed by Ogun with 65, and the FCT with 45.

Other states that recorded positive cases include Kwara (34), Abia (32), Enugu (32), Kano (25), Oyo (22), Ondo (21), Rivers (19), Kaduna (19), Benue (18), Bayelsa (12), Kebbi (12), Nasarawa (11), Akwa Ibom (9), Delta (8), Ekiti (6), Niger (5), Bauchi (3) and Imo (3).

In its update, the NCDC said 12 people died of the infection on Monday, bringing the country’s total number of deaths to 1,874.

A total of 1,489,103 samples have been tested in the country with 153,187 turning out positive — and 21,279 being active cases.
