COVID-19 second wave: Nigeria records 501 new cases, 3 deaths in 24 hours

Amid the second wave of COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 501 new cases have been recorded within 24 hours.

According to data from the NCDC, the number of deaths increased from 1,218 recorded on Saturday to 1,221 deaths on Sunday.

With 501 new cases recorded on Sunday, the number of confirmed COVID cases rose to 78,434 — while 68, 303 have been discharged.

The NCDC reported that the new cases were recorded in 14 states and the federal capital territory (FCT), and that Lagos state recorded the highest daily figure with 218 cases. It said 519 persons were discharged.

In recent days, the country has recorded a rise in COVID-19 cases.

On December 17, 1,145 cases were recorded in one single day — which is the highest daily toll recently.

And last Friday, 806 cases were recorded, while an increase was witnessed in Saturday’s cases with 920 infections.
