Crisis rocks APC registration in Delta as panel secretary quits abruptly

The ongoing membership revalidation by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta state has run into a crisis over alleged manipulation of the exercise, TheCable understands.

Sanusi Musa, a lawyer who serves as the secretary of the committee in the state, abruptly walked out of the meeting on Monday over alleged plans by supporters of Ovie Omo-Agege, the deputy senate president, to hijack the membership update process.

Omo-Agege is said to be eyeing the governorship of Delta state in 2023.

In his message to other members of the committee, Musa did not give specific reasons for decision to resign, but insiders told TheCable it was because of the alleged hijack.

“I have found myself in a position that I did not envisage and I don’t think I am able to discharge my duties for personal reasons,” he told them in the WhatsApp message.

He said he was on his way to Abuja to drop his resignation letter at the national secretariat of the party.

TheCable understands that his decision to quit came as the list of unit registration officers was being compiled.

The registration is vital to the nomination of candidates in future elections as only registered party members can vote, either through directly or through delegates, in the primaries.

Those who are not registered will not be able to vote.

Potential candidates typically scheme to disenfranchise those considered to be supporters of their likely rivals so as to make the contest less competitive.

On Sunday, Tersoo Ahu, the APC ward chairman in Gboko south ward, was murdered while training party members for the registration and revalidation exercise.
