Adewale Adeniyi, the comptroller-general (CG) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), says Nigeria is making progress with consultations on the reopening of the borders with Niger Republic and Benin Republic.

Adeniyi spoke with the State House correspondents in Abuja on Tuesday after the inauguration of the national single window (NSW) project.

Earlier, President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the NSW project to boost trade in Nigeria.

NSW is an electronic portal linking all agencies and players in import and export processes to an integrated platform.

It is domiciled at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

Adeniyi added that he met with his Benin Republic counterpart over the weekend to fine-tune the planned reopening of the borders.

Adeniyi emphasised the need for the efficient management of the country’s borders amid the launch of the single window initiative.

The customs boss commended Tinubu over his commitment to the Nigerian economy with the launch of the single window project.

In March, NCS asked residents and stakeholders of the Illela border community in Sokoto to abide by regulations ahead of the reopening of the border with Niger Republic.

Kamal Muhammad, the NCS comptroller in charge of the Sokoto/Zamfara area command, visited the Illela border station.

Muhammad had said the decision of  the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to lift the sanctions on Niger Republic might translate to the reopening of the nation’s borders
