CWG 2022: Weightlifter Liadi wins fifth medal for Nigeria
Liadi Taiwo has won a silver medal at the women’s weightlifting at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Liadi came second behind Maya Laylor of Canada with a combined lift of 216kg to claim Nigeria’s fifth medal of the competition.
She also set a junior commonwealth games record with her lift in the 76kg category on Tuesday afternoon.
She lifted 96kg in the snatch and 120kg in clean & jerk.
In the third place table tennis men’s event, Team Nigeria also failed to beat England to the bronze.
The England team thrashed the Aruna Quadri-led team 3-0 to have a place on the podium.
The duo of Abiodun Bode and Omotayo Olajide fell to Tom Jarvis and Paul Drinkhall 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 in the doubles game.
Nigeria, currently ranked ninth on the medals standings, had earlier won two gold and two bronze since the start of the games.
