It was an unfruitful day for Team Nigeria at the ongoing Commonwealth Games as they finished with no medals.

In the women’s 100 meters final, the duo of Rosemary Chukwuma and Grace Nwokocha both finished fourth and fifth respectively.

They missed the podium behind Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah, Julien Alfred of St Lucia and England’s Daryll Neita.

In the men’s high jump final, Mike Edwards finished at distant sixth after he could not go past the 2.22m height.

In the women’s shot put final, Orobosa Anabel Frank placed ninth, having hit just 16.70 meters with her throw.

The men’s discus throws F42-44/61-64 final saw Kennedy Ezeji finish sixth with just his best throw for the night at 38.76 meters.

However, there was some positive news as some members of the contingents progress into latter stages of their events.

Patience George qualified for the semifinals of the women’s 400m event.

Although she dipped 52.63 seconds to finish fourth in her heat, it was good enough to give her a semi-final place as one of the fastest non-automatic qualifiers.

But Patience Knowledge Omovoh and Ella Onojuwvwo failed to make it.

In the women’s table tennis singles, Esther Aribamise progressed into the main draw after winning her two preliminary games.

She recorded identical 4-0 victories over Roanna Abel of Vanuatu and Sadia Rahman of Bangkok to book her slot.

Sule Nasiru defeated Canadian Muhammad Mudassar after a brilliant 3-0 win as he emerged victorious in his first match of the table tennis men’s event in the Para category.

In boxing, Adeyinka Benson was defeated in the quarter-finals of the men’s middleweight 71-75kg by Scotland’s Sam Hickey.

Nigeria finished the day at 10 on the medals log with eight laurels — three gold, one silver and four bronze — in the tournament so far.
