On Day 8, Team Nigeria won three medals to increase its tally to 16 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham.

Wrestling provided all three medals from the day as Odunayo Adekuoroye defeated India’s Malik Anshu to clinch gold in the women’s 57kg freestyle category. Blessing Oborududu also claimed the gold medal in the 68kg category. 

Esther Kolawole secured the bronze medal after a 10-0 victory by technical superiority over Abbie Fountain of Scotland in the women’s freestyle 62kg wrestling.

Nigeria has now won 7 gold, 3 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

The Nigerian contingent will be hoping to increase the haul further on Day 9 with a handful of finals in the offing.

Favour Ofili and Udodi Onwuzurike will participate in both women’s and men’s 200 meters finals respectively in the evening while Temitope Simbiat Adeshina begins the day with the final of the women’s high jump.

Ezekiel Nathaniel will be hoping to spring up surprises in the men’s 400 meters hurdles while Aruna Quadri begins his singles campaign in the morning.

There will also be a handful of bronze medal matches in para table tennis.
