Abike Dabiri-Erewa, chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), has condemned the alleged killing of Kelvin Igweani, Nigerian footballer, by the UK police.
Igweani was said to have been shot dead on June 26 by Thames Valley police officers who were responding to an emergency call to a house where a child was found with serious injuries.
According to a statement by the Thames Valley police, officers, acting on information from a witness, made a forced entry into a property in Two Mile Ash North-West Milton Keynes.
Inside the property, they found a man in his 30s who was later confirmed dead and a young child with serious injuries, it added.
The statement said that the officers also found Igweani who was said to have been stung severally with a taser before he was shot dead.
Reacting in a statement on Wednesday, Dabiri-Erewa called on the UK government to carry out a thorough and proper investigation of the incident.
In the statement by Abdur-Rahman Balogun, head of NIDCOM’s media team, she also commiserated with the family of the deceased and the Nigerian communities in the UK.
