Dahiru Bauchi, renowned Islamic scholar, is dead

Dahiru Usman Bauchi, leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order in Nigeria and one of the country’s most influential Islamic scholars, has passed on.

Family sources confirmed that the cleric passed away on Thursday at a private hospital in Bauchi after a brief illness.

Funeral prayers have been scheduled and details will be announced soon.

Reportedly born around 1927 in Gombe, Dahiru Bauchi spent over seven decades teaching Qur’anic exegesis (tafsir) and leading millions of followers across West Africa.

He was widely recognised as the Khalifah of the Tijjaniyyah Ibrahimiyyah in Nigeria and served as deputy chairman of the Fatwa committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).

He is survived by dozens of children, students, and followers.
