Nigeria recorded a 43 percent fall in its single-day count of fresh COVID-19 infections — with 341 cases reported from 20 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the new cases in its update for February 27, 2021.

This is the country’s lowest daily count in the last two months — Nigeria recorded 201 positive samples on December 14, 2020.

However, the agency indicated that Saturday’s report includes data recorded from the previous day in Kaduna state.

Lagos, which continues to be the epicentre of the coronavirus pandemic in Nigeria, recorded the highest number of cases with 96 new positive samples. 

It was followed by Rivers and Kaduna — with 41 and 33 fresh infections respectively.

Other states with positive samples are Edo (21), Osun (20), Akwa Ibom (17), FCT (17), Ondo (15), Gombe (11), Kano (11), Imo (10), Ekiti (9), Kebbi (9), Kwara (8), Oyo (8), Borno (6), Enugu (3), Plateau (3), Delta (1), Niger (1) and Ogun (1).

The NCDC also confirmed 712 new recoveries on Saturday. This number includes 319 community recoveries in Lagos; 121 in Kaduna, and 38 in Rivers.

On the daily record of coronavirus-related fatalities, three new deaths were recorded, bringing the country’s current fatality toll to 1,905.

A total of 155,417 cases have now been confirmed, including 133,256 recoveries, and 20,183 active cases across the country.
