The US government will no longer enforce a mask mandate on public transportation.

This comes after a federal judge in Florida ruled that the directive was unlawful.

Airlines welcomed the move on Monday by saying they would no longer require masks.

“Face masks have been like boarding passes for nearly two years — you couldn’t fly without one. But, as of today, masks are optional in airports and onboard aircraft, effective immediately,” they said.

“Please remember to be kind to one another and that wearing a mask while traveling is still an option.”

Dual variant booster more effective against Omicron than current shot

Moderna says a COVID-19 booster designed to target the Beta variant as well as the original COVID-19 generated a better immune response against a number of virus variants including Omicron.

Moderna said the results were a good sign for the company’s plans for future shots targeting two COVID-19 variants.

Jacqueline Miller, a top Moderna scientist, said the company had no immediate plans to file for authorisation of the bivalent vaccine.
