Dambazau, SDP’s Adewale Adebayo receive honorary doctorate at WDU

Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, former chief of army staff and minister of interior, has recieved an honorary doctorate at the Western Delta University (WDU).

Also awarded is Adewale Adebayo, the former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

WDU held its convocation ceremony on Saturday at the university’s campus in the Oghara area of Delta state.

Augustine Ovuoronye Ikelegbe, the vice-chancellor, was at the event.

Dambazau was awarded an honorary doctorate in strategic studies while Adebayo got the same in political science.

On the graduands, the vice-chancellor said they underwent rigorous exams, seminars, proposal defences, and oral PhD thesis defence.

He said the graduation ceremony shows that the university has grown into ranks among reliable research institutes.

The VC said the university’s management has continued to maintain the integrity of the university programmes.

He revealed that the school have received scholarships from the OEF scheme and financial support for Niger Delta students in the university from the NDDC.

He also said the varsity is expecting scholarship awards from the Prince Adewoye Adebayo Foundation and the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

“With this, the university has transitioned into the ranks of research institutions where people are trained to carry out research independently, he said.

“Our academic quality control is one of par excellence, and our fees remain at the most modest level in spite of high operational costs. Compared with other private and state-owned universities, our fees are moderate and paid in instalments.”

The university also awarded master’s degrees to hundreds of graduates.

Addressing the graduands, Donald Duke, former governor of Delta state and the university chancellor, advised the young graduates on the three stages of life as “learning, earning, and giving”.

Eghosa Osaghae, the pro-chancellor of WDU, said Igho Oghenegaren Okotete Foundation donated a central laboratory block to WDU and “the administrative and office” complex.

He added Adebayo donated the Macaulay and Margaret Omugbe building to the College of Postgraduate Studies.
