Dangote Group’s Umar joins Pearl Awards board

Rabiu Umar, group chief commercial officer at Dangote Industries, has been sworn in as member of the Pearl Awards board.

The Pearl Awards, which is in its 25th year, rewards “operational excellence and outstanding performance” in the nation’s capital market.

Umar is a certified ISO auditor, graduate of the Harvard Business School and certified financial analyst.

The induction, which took place at Lead Capital Group head office in Lagos on Tuesday, had in attendance Faruk Umar, chairman, Pearl Awards board of governors; Tayo Orekoya, president/CEO, Pearl Awards Nigeria; Nike Akande, past president, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI); Femi Awoyemi, founder/CEO, Proshare Nigeria Limited; Abimbola Olashore, president, Association of Investment Advisers & Portfolio Managers and Lekan Adekoya, board secretary, Pearl Awards Nigeria.

Umar, who formally inducted Rabiu into the board, expressed delight that the inductee joined the board at the “threshold of the awards’ landmark 25th edition” with prospects of going continental soon.

The new board member thanked the team for reposing confidence in him while pledging commitment to its objectives.

“I have followed the trajectory and success story of the Pearl Awards over the years and I look forward to contributing my quota to lifting it higher,” Umar said.

Meanwhile, organisers of awards say the stage is set for the occasion which comes up on November 24 at the Eko Hotel & Suites Lagos, with the theme ‘Celebrating Sustainable Leadership and Resilience’.

“This event is being remodeled from an operational stand point to be more appealing and engaging on a night of excellence and glamour,” Tayo Orekoya, president of the awards board, said on Wednesday.

Among the guests expected at the occasion are Olufemi Lijadu, chairman, board of Securities & Exchange Commission; Mary Uduk, acting director-general, Securities & Exchange Commission; Bashorun J.K. Randle, past president, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria; and Kayode Falowo, President, Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce.
