Ibrahim Dankwambo, governor of Gombe state, says the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) knows how to lead the country because it has tasted power before.
Dankwambo who is a presidential aspirant on the platform of the PDP said this on Monday at a meeting with north-central leaders of the party in Abuja.
The governor said the party must put forward a presidential candidate for the 2019 election who would be presentable to everyone.
“We are taking decisions about the place of our people. We are going to take decisions about the future of the people,” he said.
“For a party like PDP that has tasted power between 1999 and 2015. We have trained a lot of leaders and we are training a lot of leaders and we know how to lead. So from our party there will be a lot for people that will desire [to run for president].
“We should be able not to take those kind of decisions that we used to take, we must present a candidate that is presentable across board.”
The presidential aspirant said there should be someone who can work towards addressing the country’s challenges.
“We should work with somebody that has done it before, somebody doing it now or has capacity of doing it better. For somebody to stand up and say there is insurgency and if you elect me, in two months I will finish insurgency. How? If you elect me dollar is equal to one naira. How? I will eradicate hunger. How? Because when you were there, there was hunger. You want to eradicate hunger again,” he asked.
“There should be someone who has the capacity or has the ability.”
On his part, Philip Aduda, senator representing FCT, said there is a need for members of the north-central zone of the party to unite.
“In the north-central zone, you must move as quickly as possible to ensure reintegration and those who just joined so we can work together as a party,” Aduda said.
“This seems to be the victory zone among other zones. We have about 15 Senators and two governors. Its time for us to move a step forward to work.”
Dino Melaye, senator representing Kogi west, and Gabriel Suswam, former governor of Benue, were among those present at the meeting.
