Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun, has declared his intention to run for another term in office.

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Abiodun said he would be running contest alongside Noimot Oyedele, Ogun deputy governor.

The governor said the Dapo Abiodun Mandate Group led by Apagun Biyi Adeleye has purchased his expression of interest and nomination forms for him to contest the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election.

Abiodun said he is committed to providing qualitative governance to all residents of Ogun state.

“Today, I formally declared my intention to run for a second term in office, and I also announced that I will be running with my deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako Oyedele,” he said.

“This was during the presentation of my nomination form by the DA Mandate Group to me.

“The DA Mandate Group, led by Apagun Biyi Adeleye, had raised funds for the purchase of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for my second term bid.

“With the support of the good citizens and residents of our dear State, we must sustain the #BuildingOurFuture Together Agenda by doing all that is reasonably within our reach towards ensuring that we provide focused and qualitative governance for everyone.”

The development comes hours after the Ogun governor responded to a petition seeking to disqualify him from contesting in the 2023 general election.

A petition by one Ayodele Oludiran, an APC member, was said to have been submitted to the party, seeking Abiodun’s disqualification over an alleged fraud conviction involving the latter, as well as “inconsistencies” in forms submitted for the 2019 governorship election.

But responding in a letter to APC by his counsel, Afe Babalola & Co., Abiodun described the allegations as “baseless” and urged the national leadership of the party to ignore the claims.
