Dapo Abiodun, governor of Ogun state, has received a dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine — first governor in the country to do so.

Abiodun was administered the jab by Tomi Coker, the state commissioner for health, on Tuesday, in Abeokuta.

The governor was vaccinated alongside Noimot Salako-Oyedele, the deputy governor, and other frontline health workers in the state.

On Monday, the state government took delivery of 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) said it had commenced distribution of the vaccine to states.

Nigeria commenced its COVID vaccination with frontline health workers in Abuja last Friday.

So far, apart from some frontline health workers, President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, and some government officials have received the vaccine.
