Sunday Dare, minister of youth and sports development, will deliver a keynote address at the United Nations general assembly (UNGA) side event in New York on Thursday.

The minister and other prominent persons are expected to speak at the side event organised by the assembly.

Among those expected to speak at the event are Ulisses Correia e Silva, prime minister of Cape Verde; and Pun-arj Chairatana, the executive director, national innovation agency of Thailand.

Others are Niyi Adebayo, Nigeria’s minister of industry, trade and investments; Audu Makori, founder and executive vice-chairman of Chocolate City entertainment group; and Nneka Chime, principal of cross Boundary.

The UNGA is the main policy-making organ of the UN. The assembly meets in regular sessions from September to December each year, and thereafter as required.

This will be the 77th session of the UNGA. This year’s edition is tagged: “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges”.

Like in previous sessions, world leaders would converge to deliver speeches, and discuss their administration’s priorities and challenges.

President Muhammadu Buhari is already in New York to take part in the UNGA, which officially begins on Tuesday.
