The Digital Bridge Institute (DBI) has launched a new training programme for 10,000 workers across Nigerian universities and polytechnics to enhance their digital literacy and skills.

The programme, known as the Advance Digital Empowerment Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADEPTI), is fully sponsored by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

It will train 100 staff members in each of the 100 institutions participating in the annual initiative.

The first training sessions began on Monday at four centers: the University of Ilesa in Osun State, Nigerian Army University in Borno State, Rivers State School of Nursing Sciences and Management Technology in Port Harcourt, and the Federal University in Kebbi State.

At the launch, Taiwo Olufemi Asaolu, vice-chancellor of the University of Ilesa, highlighted the importance of the programme by calling it a collaborative initiative that reflects the commitment of the federal government and schools to improving technological proficiency.

He noted that advanced digital skills are crucial for modern teaching, learning, and research, and they significantly impact global and national university rankings.

“The Digital Bridge Institute’s ADEPTI workshop aligns with our vision, focusing on critical areas such as data analysis and visualization, digital skills, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies,” Asaolu said.

He expressed confidence that the expertise of the instructors would enhance participants’ skills and inspire innovative approaches to technology.

Speaking on behalf of the DBI president David Daser, Soji-Eze Fagbemi explained that the program is fully funded by the NCC and implemented by the DBI, a leading center for ICT training and telecom education in Nigeria.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the program to improve their academic teaching and research.

“I want to encourage participants to give this training the attention and commitment it deserves,” Fagbemi said.
