Delta assembly calls for memoranda on proposed disability bill

The Delta state house of assembly joint committee on housing, women affairs, girl-child entrepreneurship and humanitarian support services, has called for memoranda on the Protection of Persons with Disability Bill.

The bill has scaled second reading at plenary.

A statement issued by Bridget Anyafulu, chairperson of the committee, said public inputs would be necessary for the bill to become law.

She said the committee will welcome written contributions from organisations, institutions and individuals, including the Delta state ministries of women affairs and social development, humanitarian affairs, community support services, girl-child development and housing.

The lawmaker who represents Oshimili south in the house, said inputs are also expected from the directorate of establishments and pensions, ministry of  health, ministry of justice, ministry of basic and secondary education, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), among others.

She said all memoranda should be in twenty copies, enclosed in sealed envelopes, marked ‘Delta State Protection of Persons with Disability Bill’, and sent to the committee on or before Thursday, February 8, 2024.

The joint committee is expected to meet to discuss the inputs of different stakeholders before presenting the report at plenary.
