Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta state, says his administration will continue to partner with Midwestern Oil and Gas (MWOG), an oil firm in the state, to spread development across Delta.
Speaking while commissioning some projects embarked upon by the company, Okowa commended Midwestern Oil and Gas for its interest in developing its host communities.
Represented by Patrick Ukah, his commissioner for information, Okowa said the oil company has been showing acts of commendable corporate social responsibility.
“We are happy to say that Midwestern Oil and Gas has continued to be responsible in joining hands with government to develop its host communities,” he said.
“And I can assure them that they will never regret coming to Kwale for their exploration activities.”
Charles Oditah, managing director and chief executive officer of the company, said Midwestern Oil and Gas has established a tradition of partnering the communities in its operation area.
He listed some of the assistance that the oil firm has rendered as provision of road networks, transformers to boost electricity supply, solar-powered boreholes, building of and equipping blocks of classrooms, offer of scholarships, as well as training youths in various skill acquisition schemes, among others.
He added that the 20-bed Amenity ward at the Kwale General Hospital was constructed and fully equipped by the Midwestern JV as part of its contribution to improving health care facilities.
“We also have many other ongoing projects that we will also commission in a couple of months,” he said.
Oditah tasked the host communities to always co-operate with the company by ensuring that they mount surveillance on the safety of oil facilities in the area.
He said Midwestern Oil and Gas had introduced a scholarship scheme of an annual price of N150,000 to students drawn from the community and across the state.
