James Ibori, a former governor of Delta state, has congratulated the people of the state for  choosing “peace and unity” by re-electing Ifeanyichukwu Okowa, incumbent governor of the state.

Okowa, who was the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, polled 925, 274 votes to defeat James Ogboru of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 215, 938 votes.

In a statement by Tony Eluemunor, his media assistant, Ibori said Deltans wise choice has saved the state from conflict.

IHe said the people of the state spoke with one voice last Saturday and overwhelmingly supported Okowa to continue his “good work.”

“This victory belongs to the good people of Delta state, not to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alone, because the entire state voted massively to re-elect Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who defeated his opponent convincingly. I cherish this unity of purpose,” Ìbòrí was quoted as saying.

“The people of Delta chose fairness, equity, peace and unity instead of discord, disharmony and rancour.

“This wise choice has saved Delta from the conflict and internal contention that has wracked many states in Nigeria.”

Ibori said he was absolutely sure that Okowa would continue his “good work” and remain committed to the entire state as one constituency because his victory was made possible by all Deltans.

He said: “Now that the elections are over, Delta state needs to move on with its normal developmental strides on all fronts; industries, education, road construction or sports, and continue with its normal role; showing the rest of the country the way to follow.

“Therefore, I appeal to all Deltans to join hands with Governor Okowa to advance Delta State, Nigeria’s Big Heart.”
