Abba Moro, senator representing Benue south, has asked Olufemi Oluyede, chief of army staff, to deploy more troops to vulnerable communities in the senatorial district.
Moro, who is also the senate minority leader, made the request on Monday when he led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the army headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation included David Ogewu, member of the house of representatives for Oju/Obi federal constituency, and Joseph Oche, founder of the G12 Foundation.
Moro said the visit was to appreciate the army’s efforts and to demand further intervention to address ongoing insecurity in Benue south.

“We came to thank the COAS for his concern and determination to end insecurity in Benue state, especially Benue south where there have been persistent and sustained attacks and killings of our people,” he said.
“We also requested that more troops be deployed to the vulnerable communities and the establishment of a Forward Operating Base in one of the vulnerable communities.”
He said Oluyede appreciated the visit and expressed renewed commitment to restoring peace in the area.

“The Chief of Army Staff, in his response, thanked us for coming to thank him and said the visit has reinvigorated him to push ahead with his desire to end insecurity and killings in our land,” Moro said.
“He promised to consider our requests, bearing in mind the limitations of the Nigerian Army.”
Moro added that Blessing Onuh, member of the house of representatives, was unavoidably absent, while Ojotu Ojema, another lawmaker, was away on official assignment.
He said he would continue to work to ensure his constituents live and do business without fear.
