The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says 16 military officers will undergo a full disciplinary process following allegations of indiscipline and breaches of service regulations.

In a statement released on Saturday, Tukur Gusau, director of defence information, said the officers have been arrested and investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of their offences.

“Investigations have revealed that their grievances stemmed largely from perceived career stagnation caused by repeated failure in promotion examinations, among other issues,” the statement reads.

Gusau noted that some of the officers were already under jurisdiction for various offences, either awaiting or undergoing trial, and their conduct was deemed incompatible with military standards.

“Upon completion of investigation, indicted officers will face the full military disciplinary process in accordance with established procedures to ensure accountability and preserve professionalism within the Armed Forces,” the statement reads.

The military assured Nigerians that the actions were disciplinary and part of ongoing efforts to maintain order, discipline, and loyalty within the ranks.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria will not tolerate behaviour that undermines the integrity of the institution or threatens its constitutional role under democratic authority,” the statement added.
