Didier Drogba, Ivory Coast and Chelsea legend, has announced his retirement from football.

“After 20 years, I have decided to put an end to my playing career,” the 40 years old former Marseille striker said.

Drogba, who played his final match for Phoenix Rising earlier this month, said he will now concentrate on nurturing young talent.

“It’s the best way to end, helping some young talent to develop, to give something back to the game was the best way to finish as I have learned so much in the game,” he said.

The all-time record goalscorer for Ivory Coast with 65 goals in 105 caps made 254 appearances for Chelsea and scored 104 goals in 10 seasons.

Drogba came into limelight at Olympic Marseille before earning his reputation as a fearsome striker at Chelsea, playing for the London club in two stints.

He won three English Premier League titles and also captained his country at three World Cups.

His legendary status was cemented when he won the Champions League in 2012, equalising and scoring the winning penalty against Bayern Munich.
