Diri, Fubara, Dauda Lawal to be honoured at 2025 First Daily Excellence Awards

Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers state, and Douye Diri, governor of Bayelsa, are among the distinguished Nigerians to be honoured at the 2025 First Daily Public Lecture and Excellence Awards.

The event, scheduled for November 10 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, will recognise outstanding leadership and transformational contributions across Nigeria.

Fubara will receive the governor of the year (civil service welfare and development) award for his efforts in empowering civil servants and enhancing government productivity in Rivers state.

At the event, Diri will be honoured as governor of the year (infrastructure development) for his administration’s significant investments in road infrastructure, urban renewal, and bridging connectivity gaps between urban and rural communities in Bayelsa.

Other notable awardees include Dauda Lawal, governor of Zamfara, who will be recognised for good governance, and Seriake Dickson, former governor of Bayelsa, who will receive the award as outstanding lawmaker of the year for his legislative excellence and advocacy for national unity.

The ceremony will be preceded by a public lecture themed “How can we make our votes count?”, aimed at fostering national reflection on electoral credibility and civic responsibility.

Daniel Iworiso-Markson, publisher of First Daily, said the awards are designed to promote a culture of merit, accountability, and national development, spotlighting leaders whose integrity inspires positive change.
