David Anyaele, chairman of the Abia State Disability Commission (ASDC), has urged persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Ikwuano to form a cooperative society for economic empowerment.

The call was made during a town hall meeting in Ikwuano LGA on August 29, 2025.

The aim of the meeting was to foster inclusion and participation among PWDs in the area.

Anyaele, accompanied by Anthony Nwaubani, the mayor of Ikwuano LGA, emphasised that belonging to a cooperative society “fosters ownership, operational efficiency, and sustainability while promoting personal and collective growth”.

During the meeting, the disability community requested a palm oil processing machine to start a profitable business. The mayor pledged his support, promising to help register the cooperative society and provide the requested machine.

He also highlighted his administration’s other initiatives for PWDs, such as the appointment of a special assistant on PWDs and the incorporation of ramps and assistive features in the new office block.

Anyaele commended the mayor’s commitment, noting that this was the seventh town hall meeting held by the commission across Abia state as part of its efforts to deepen inclusion and participation.
