The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says power distribution companies (DisCos) generated N196.26 billion revenue in September.

The NERC announced the revenue evaluation in its ‘DisCos commercial performance fact sheet’ for September.

According to the report, the figure represents a 2.69 percent increase from the N191.11 billion revenue collected in August.

The commission said the DisCos realised the revenue after billing customers N241.54 billion in the month under review.

The NERC report said the figure signifies a 1.20  percent increase from N238.67 billion billed to customers in August.

The commission reported that collection efficiency increased slightly to 81.25 percent, up from 80.07 percent in the previous month.

According to the factsheet, the total energy received by DisCos amounted to N279.45 billion in September — a 1.82 percent decline from N284.64 billion received in the previous month.

According to the commission, the average allowed tariff across DisCos was N116.34/kWh, while the actual average collection stood at N97.09/kWh for September.

NERC said Eko, Abuja, and Ikeja DisCos remained strong performers across billing, collections, and recovery efficiency.

“Aba achieved a 102.85% billing efficiency, reflecting improved energy optimisation and legacy recovery,” the report reads.

“Benin, PH, and Kano posted moderate efficiency levels, while Jos, Kaduna, and Yola continued to trail and show room for improvement.”

According to the commission, the figures provide a clear indication of how efficiently DisCos are billing customers, collecting payments, and recovering revenue.

NERC added that the metrics are essential for boosting liquidity and enhancing service delivery across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
