PHOTOS: ‘All we wanted to do is compete’ — disqualified Nigerian athletes protest in Tokyo
The Nigerian track and field athletes disqualified from competing in the Tokyo Olympics have taken to the streets of Japan to protest the decision.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on Wednesday disqualified the 10 Nigerian athletes from the Tokyo Olympics due to failure to comply with the out of the competition testing (OCT) requirement.
The affected persons include Knowledge Omovoh, Ruth Usoro, Favor Ofili, Rosemary Chukwuma, Glory Patrick, Yinka Ajayi, Tima Godbless, Chidi Okezie, Chioma Onyekwere and Annette Echikunwoke.
But on Friday, the athletes took to the streets of Tokyo to protest their disqualification.
They also carried placards and cardboards with inscriptions such as “We are not alternative but potential medallists”, “why should we suffer because of someone else’s negligence”, “All we wanted to do is compete.”
